Can technology improve your profit?

The current technological revolution has had a major effect on how property is bought and sold. These technological advances can also be used to your advantage when trying to procure new business, grow name awareness and manage your customer relationships.

Some agents don’t have a website!

You would be surprised at how many Estate Agents I speak to who don’t even have their own website. Their excuse is usually that they have their properties on ‘rightmove’ so they have no need for a website. If you are one of these then I strongly recommend that you change your attitude and do it quickly! A website not only serves as a portal to display your properties, it is your online business card, it is your online shop front and it can be a whole lot more.

Search Engine Optimisation

Many vendors now start their search for an agent online, with proper search engine optimisation you can appear at the top of their search list. This can be far more powerful than any leaflet or canvass letter that you may be popping through doors as these leads are already qualified as they have a genuine interest in your services.

On the other hand there are plenty of technologies which look and sound great on the face of it but will have little or no effect on your bottom line or the growth of your business. They are simply gimmicks which will eat away at your profits.

How do you avoid the gimmicks?

This can be quite difficult and plenty of hard earned income can be wasted on trial and error. My tip is to understand fully the reasons why you need to invest. Be clear that the product you want to invest in will either save you money or bring you a measurable profit. It is also important to remember that some of these so called ‘money earners’ will only do so if your staff are fully trained on how to use them and how to sell the benefits on to your clients. Remember to explain the features, sell the benefits and then close for the business, every time.

    Property trade networks for estate agents could also be a major break through if created and managed in a similar way as the auto trade networks are managed. As an industry we should embrace new technology and strive to work along side it
